From the capital city of Shimla, it’s more than 700 kilometers (about 435 miles) to reach these Himalayan regions, accessible by road only during the summer months. Despite being so hard to reach, Lahaul and Spiti remain some of the country’s most beautiful destinations, offering everything from stunning mountain views to centuries-old monasteries and temples.

The Clean Air Act

In India, the air quality is monitored by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB). The National Ambient Air Quality Standards (NAAQS) define the permissible limits of various pollutants in the atmosphere. The Air (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act was enacted in 1981 to provide for the prevention, control, and abatement of air pollution. Under this Act, various standards have been prescribed for different industries.
The emission standards for automobiles are governed by the Bharat Stage (BS) norms, which are based on European emission standards. BS-IV norms were introduced in 2010 and upgraded to BS-VI in 2020.
